Vacancy: Senior Lecturer (nGAP): Psychiatric Addictions, Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health (Ref: E210226)

The University of Cape Town is seeking an energetic and dynamic candidate to join the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health to strengthen leadership in the area of addictions psychiatry. The individual should be a clinicianscientist with a strong knowledge of addictions psychiatry.

The individual would facilitate the acquisition, analysis, management, and publication of psychiatric addictions data, and would supervise postgraduate students.This Senior Lecturer position will be appointed under the auspices of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) funded by the Department of Higher Education & Training.

This full time permanent position is open to black South Africans of age 40 years or younger. The appointment will be made in terms of the purposes expressed in the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF). Requirements include:

Registration with the HPSCA as a doctor or clinical psychologistAt least one year’s experience as a fulltime lecturer in addictions psychiatry, teaching at postgraduate level

Knowledge of addictions science as evidenced by specific postgraduate teaching(ie. successfully graduating masters or postgraduate diploma students) or research outputs(ie. peerreviewed articles)in this area

Responsibilities include:

Undertake teaching on psychiatric addictions

Undertake research on psychiatric addictions

Provide assistance to the Head of Department with strategic administrative assistance, for example, in the areas of research and postgraduate training

Provide supervision and teaching to postgraduate and undergraduate students

Social responsiveness work in the area of psychiatric addictions

The appointment will be on UCT Academic Clinical conditions of service.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits will be based on the University’s clinical pay line which is aligned to OSD rates.
